Electrical Panel Infrared Inspection

Alpine Thermal Imaging Systems Thermal Roofing Inspections

Electrical Thermal Imaging can have a significant impact on your troubleshooting and maintenance productivity. It is a valuable tool that can help with your bottom line when handling industrial, electrical and building applications.
The variations of abnormal heating associated with the excessive current flow or high resistance, is the main cause of many problems in electrical systems. If there is an abnormally high resistance in the circuit or abnormally high current flow, high heat is generated. This is costly, wasteful and potentially damaging and dangerous.

How A Roof May Be Damaged

Electrical Panel Thermal Imaging enables us to see these heat sources associated with high electrical resistance well before the circuit becomes hot enough to cause an outage or explosion. Thermal imaging allows us to see the variations of impending damage before the damage can occur.

Some of the examples of potential imbalances that need immediate attention are:

  • Fuses- Compromised fuses that are hot at one end but not at both ends can be interpreted differently, but both cause phase imbalance.
  • Wall plugs-Wall plugs are deceptive because they can continue to operate until replaced, making for a real fire hazard.
  • Circuit panels-The total circuit panel can have overloads and need immediate attention. Circuit breakers can become overheated, and the entire electrical system must be redone.
  • Electrical Wires-We can determine if anyone wire is hotter than the others. That will help determine if repair is needed. This can indicate not only a serious imbalance but seriously impact the customer’s utility bill.

Literally, hundreds of different pieces of equipment may be found in an electrical system. High voltage distribution, switchyards and substation, service transformers, switch gear, breakers, meters, local distribution, and appliance panels…….

Thermal imaging of electrical systems can not only help with maintenance and energy efficiency but can alleviate a potentially very dangerous fire hazard.
